These are My Rules and if you Don’t Like Them, You Don’t Have to Sing!
This is Basic Karaoke Etiquette!
**People need to have respect and consideration for others**
· NO Microphone Stealing! It is very inconsiderate to take someone’s microphone while they are singing and I will break your hand if you take one off my table without asking me. Please have some consideration for other people and just be nice!
· Please, please, PLEASE, don’t bang on the microphones with your hand to see if they are on! If you speak into them you’ll know they are on.
· Please return the microphones TO ME when you are done singing. Don’t leave them on the bar or on a stool.
· Please put the number that corresponds to the song you’d like to sing on the slip. Please don’t tell me you can’t read the book. I printed it in the largest print available which is why the book is so thick. The longer it takes me to figure out what you’re singing, the longer its going to take to get you up to sing.
· If you sign up to sing you actually have to sing the song. Please don’t sign up if you really don’t have any intention of singing it. This takes up everyone’s time and it isn’t cute or funny. The same goes for signing up others without their knowledge.
· PLEASE don’t set your drinks on my table! Spilled drinks = Ruined cd’s
· Don’t think that because you are drunk these rules don’t apply to you!
Now, on to the little things…
· Karaoke songs are listed alphabetically by Title as well as by Artist.
· New songs are listed in the front on their own pages. These have not been added to the library of songs so they will not appear in the rest of the book until I redo the book about once a year.
· To sing please fill out a card with your name, the song title and the number that corresponds with that title and bring it up to me. Cards and pens are located in the front of each karaoke book. The title helps me if you happen to write down the number incorrectly I can find the right one instead of you yelling at me “That’s not what I signed up for!” Trust me, this happens all the time and it’s easy to avoid if you write the title down! You can feel free to write this on $5, $10 or $20 bills as well.
· You’ll notice that many titles appear two, three, four or even five times and that they all have different numbers. This is because sometimes I end up with more than one version of a song and sometimes one sounds better than another. Rather than delete the duplicates from the list, I’ve included them. If one doesn’t sound good we can always try another next time.
· Karaoke cd’s are not performed by the original artist therefore it may not always sound like it does on the radio. I cannot help this. I do my best to switch out one version if I know that another is better when you turn in your cards but I don’t always know. I have over 600 cd’s and over 7,500 songs and we haven’t gotten to them all yet!
· I do my best to allow everyone to sing as many times as they sign up but please keep in mind it is up to the discretion of the karaoke host (that would be me) to decide who and in what order the singing takes place. Please do not tell me you are leaving so I get you up sooner and skip people that have already been waiting an hour only to stay until closing time. This is unfair to others.
· I try to incorporate new singers into the rotation as they sign up so if you sang once or twice already and think somebody is skipping you in the rotation, they are, but only in fairness to them. Think about it, if YOU were the new singer YOU would want to be up next instead of the guy that already sang a few times!
· I prefer to let singers sing two songs at a time because it just seems to flow better that way. Feel free to list as many songs on a card at one time, though I will usually only put them up two at a time.
· If you turn in a card after 12:00 I cannot guarantee that I will be able to get you up again to sing. At times the rotation is very large and I do my best to get everything in but it isn’t always possible. I go an hour overtime most nights out of the kindness of my heart. Tips can go a long way with allowing a few more songs, though it doesn’t mean you will be up next.
· I try to update my music as often as possible and I do take requests. That is how I built my book. Karaoke cd’s, however, can be expensive and certain songs are unavailable, discontinued or hard to find. It is not likely that only one week after you’ve asked me to get something that I will have it. It usually takes longer than that to process my order and ship it. There are no karaoke stores in the area that just sell karaoke discs. All of my ordering is done online. I also don’t have an endless supply of money to purchase new music. If you’d like me to find a song for you, please write it down on a card and label it REQUEST. Both the title and artist are helpful to me in finding them. Again, feel free to write this on $5, $10 or $20 bills.
· I am only one person. I try to accommodate everyone as well as please everyone. Sometimes in order to please one person I piss off four others. I am not perfect and I really try my best to have a fun, successful karaoke show. Your respect and consideration for myself and others goes a long way toward achieving this.
· This is supposed to be fun and is open to everyone. Let’s all remember that and try to have some manners. Please don’t criticize other people’s singing or try to sing over them while they are singing because you think you are a rock star. If you don’t have anything nice to say you shouldn’t say anything at all.
Thank you for taking the time to read this page (yeah right, like anybody really does). I don’t mean to sound like a b*%#@ but If everyone plays nice we can all have more fun.
Thank you!
