Karaoke Songs
My karaoke book is updated every couple of months with new music and each time it's with approximately 1000 new songs. I still run my shows the good old-fashioned way, using cd's. One thing that makes my show unique is my karaoke book. I include more than just available music in my book and I'm finding that more and more people are discontinuing the use of a book once they go computerized. Perhaps they don't want to continue updating it...it can be expensive as well as time consuming. I find it gives people ideas and keeps the list organized. It's hard to share what you have available from a small laptop screen and constantly having people hanging around you is distracting for singers only a few feet away. I also prefer that people sign up because I save and file their cards and give them back each week so people don't have to sign up for the same songs each week. It saves time for both of us and saves paper as well. I find it makes people feel appreciated when I still have their cards from the previous week. I will continue to use and update my book as well as require people to sign up to sing even if I eventually decide to go computerized.
Many singers carry their own music on disc and I have seen it done...the karaoke host illegally copies the disc with their computer and then adds it to their own collection. This is just wrong and not something that I will do. I like to be able to use a customer's cd if that is what they chose and I am able to do this using the "old way". It's also still possible using a computer.
When people convert to a computer they are still using the same music...just in a different format. Many times the compressed format will not sound as good as the original cd format. Karaoke songs are never performed by the original artist and sometimes will not sound like it does on the radio. It's probably the biggest complaint I get from people. There is NOTHING I can do about it! I do my best to purchase legal, quality music. Converting to computerized karaoke will not change this and downloading thousands of illegal copies so I can brag about how big my collection is is not something I am going to do.
Stay tuned...I hope to have things updated very soon!
